PERU — After months of preparation, the Friends of Peru Elementary School have officially announced the revival of the Peru Summerfest.

The Summerfest is scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6, at the Peru Elementary School.

Nick Waugh, chairman of the group, said Summerfest began about 20 years ago but stopped for nearly a decade because of a lack of volunteers.

Waugh said Friends of Peru Elementary had been looking for ways to reboot the festival since the winter of 2013, but hadn’t engaged in any serious discussions until April.

Yvonne Allen, who served as the chairwoman for Summerfest when it first started, is serving as co-chairwoman this year.

Waugh said Friends of Peru Elementary are looking for crafters to rent booth space at the festival.

The Friends of Peru Elementary are also inviting people to bring in old or historical photographs they’d like to scan and add to the online Maine Memory Network collection for the Peru Historical Society.

“The Dirigo High School student who helped us at our Maine Memory Network scanning party earlier this year will be handling the scanner,” Waugh said. “Owners of the photos would retain possession of them and all rights to them, but the images would be made available to the world.”

On Friday, Sept. 5, the festival will kick off at 5 p.m. with a parade that celebrates Peru’s past, followed by a street dance at 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Peru Elementary School. The dance will feature music from The Legends.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, there will be a 5K road race and a 1-mile run/walk at 8 a.m. at the Peru Elementary School, as well as a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m.

Other events taking place Saturday include the following:

* 9 a.m. — Crafters/Flea Market
