FARMINGTON — American Legion Post 28 will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Pro Service, Farmington Falls Road.

Free waffles for military

WILTON — In honor of National Waffle Day 2014, the Comfort Inn & Suites in Wilton will be saying “Thank You with Waffles” to all military members.

A free waffle breakfast will be offered to all retired and active military from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at 1026 U.S. Route 2.

KLT 25th anniversary celebration

FAYETTE — Kennebec Land Trust’s 25th anniversary celebration will be held Sunday, Aug. 24, at Camp Winnebago on Echo Lake.

The event and annual meeting will include Tri Sport Challenge, local foods potluck, workshops and live music.

A 25th anniversary capital campaign is geared towards building funds to conserve and maintain properties. The group also has a goal to increase membership to 1000 (currently around 900). Property acquisitions/easements include Howard Hill in Augusta, an additional parcel at Parker Pond in Fayette, Judy Kane Parcel – Kennebec River Corridor in Augusta and Samuel Hutchinson Homestead Conservation Area in Litchfield.

TURNER — A follow-up meeting for the North Turner Cemetery will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the home of Eva and Peter Leavitt at 7 Beach St., North Turner.

Readings from “Sandy River Rhymes”

STRONG — Selected readings from “Sandy River Rhymes,” by the late Henry W. Scamman, will be presented at the September meeting of the Strong Historical Society on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 79 North Main St.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. for a tour of the building. A potluck supper will take place at 6. A brief business meeting will be held at 7, with readings immediately thereafter. The public is invited.

Scamman was born and raised in Phillips, where he started raising his family. They moved to Strong in 1944, where he soon made a name for himself as the farmer and poet on Norton Hill. In later years two books of his down-to-earth country poetry were published.

Trinity Church cancels Sept. 13 supper

FARMINGTON — Farmington Trinity United Methodist Church has canceled the Sept. 13 public supper.

Visit the Trinity Methodist booth during the Farmington Fair, which starts Sept. 14.

Suppers will resume at the church in Oct. 11.
