NEW GLOUCESTER — A heavy turnout at the New Gloucester Community Fair on Saturday brought the public an assortment of activities for all ages to enjoy.

An antique and vintage auto show and an authentic baseball game using classic uniforms and rules from 1864 brought delight as the Dirigo Ball Club won victory over the Presumpscot Base Ball Club by a score of 3 to 2.

Rock climbing and bungee trampoline appealed to youngsters, and a giant fire truck ferried children around the New Gloucester Fairgrounds.

Michael Bardier, who heads up the Fair Committee of New Gloucester volunteers, said the event was partially funded by taxpayers at $5,000. The goal in the future is to make the $20,000 fair self-sufficient.

Crafters joined with the Democrat and Republican political parties vying for public support.

Pony rides and goats drew children’s attention along with Mr. Drew and his Animals, Too, of Lewiston.

Abby, a California king snake was docile while Tim Hamilton and Kelsy Hotham held her gently.

A show of solid support greeted volunteers who worked hard to make the event a success for the community.
