LEEDS — Two groups clashed on a country road Monday night, leading to shots being fired and a search for an armed man in the woods.

According to a release from Lt. Glen Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, officers from the Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police were called to the intersection of Line Road and Country View Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Holt said the area was closed off until around 9 p.m. as officers investigated a physical altercation between two groups of people resulting in the discharge of a firearm.

According to Holt, witnesses said Bud Madrid Roddy, 40, ran to his residence and came back with a firearm that he fired several times in the direction of the other group of people involved in the altercation.

Holt said Roddy then ran back to his residence with the firearm and fled into the woods behind his home.

The initial altercation resulted in three people being sent to hospitals, where they were all treated and released, Holt said. He said no one was injured as the result of the gunfire.

Roddy was taken into custody as he was trying to make his way back to his residence from the woods. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and remained there Tuesday.

Roddy was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm and violation of conditions of release.

Holt said Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputies remained at the scene throughout the night gathering evidence and obtaining a search warrant.

According to Holt, the investigation may take several days to determine whether additional charges will be filed in this case.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department at 207-753-2599. Detective Kevin Nichols is the primary investigator.
