RUMFORD — Black Mountain Ski Resort has installed new air conditioning units in the resort’s base lodge in hopes of hosting more events next summer.

Roger Arsenault, president of the Black Mountain board of directors, was asked by selectmen July 10 if there were any capital improvements the resort wished to complete. Arsenault said he wanted to install an air conditioner in the lodge.

The amount of events that we hold during the summer goes down drastically because of how hot it is in that building,” he said. “If we can get some air conditioning, maybe we can get more events.”

Townspeople and volunteers assisted with the installation, according to a news release from Black Mountain. Volunteers included Jim Carter, Warren MacFawn and Steve Childs, who engineered and installed two roof curbs and made provisions for the duct work penetrations into the roof. Cliff Harding of Harding Roofing in Rumford provided a motorized lift and donated roof flashing. Kenny and Skip MacFawn helped install the air conditioner’s electrical system and Bancroft Contracting of Paris donated a crane to lift the air conditioning units onto the roof of the lodge.

Arsenault “had a hand in everything from engineering and ordering the air conditioner units to assembly and start-up,” according to the release.
