LEWISTON — The Western Maine Labor Council will host a free public barbecue on Monday, Sept. 1, in honor of the Labor Day holiday. This will be the eighth year the event has been held.

Workers, families, friends and community members are invited to celebrate working people and their accomplishments. The Labor Council Barbecue will feature food, entertainment and speakers, including local FairPoint workers seeking a fair contract.

The barbecue will take place at IBEW Local 567 Union Hall, 238 Goddard Road, Lewiston, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Labor Day barbecues also will take place in Jay at USW 14 Hall, 16 Intervale Road and in Rumford at USW 900 Hall, 232 Route 108.

These events will take place rain or shine and are free and open to the public.

The Western Maine Labor Council represents more than 4,000 members from more than 20 unions in Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.
