FARMINGTON — Selectmen decided not to include the American Red Cross request for a municipal allocation of $1,200 in the 2015 budget.
The board did not include any outside agency requests in the current budget, Town Manager Richard Davis said.
The board directed the agency to ask Franklin County to include the request in its current budget, he said.
The agency serves more of a county service, he said.
According to a letter to Davis from the American Red Cross, Maine, it is a local organization committed to meeting the emergency needs of each and every family in Farmington.
The Red Cross responded to the immediate needs of four people who lost their homes to fire in the last fiscal year in Farmington, the agency’s letter states.
The agency served 27 people across Franklin County, last year.
The average cost to meet the emergency needs of a family of four affected by a disaster is more than $1,200. It helps pay for food, clothing and prescription medication, and the Red Cross provides access to temporary shelter and support, according to the agency.
