FARMINGTON — Farmington Recreation Department will accept registrations for the Prep Soccer Program and Instructional Soccer League on Sept. 9, 10 and 11.
The department office in the Farmington Community Center will remain open until 6 p.m. on Sept. 11.
Prep Soccer is for boys and girls ages 5 and 6. Last year, 45 children were introduced to the sport in a noncompetitive format and pressure-free atmosphere.
The six-week program teaches children about the sport while they practice fundamentals through fun games, simple drills and exercises and short pickup scrimmages.
The program is held Sunday afternoons at the Little League Park at Hippach Field. Practices begin on Sept. 14 and the program finishes on Oct. 19.
Nicole Pires, a Mt. Blue High School junior who plays on the girls’ varsity soccer team, will lead the program this year.
The 35th season of Instructional Soccer League is for children in grades one to six in two divisions. Division 1 consists of grades one, two and three, and Division 2 is for children in grades four, five and six.
The focus is to teach fundamentals, refine playing skills, improve fitness levels and teach the rules and basic concepts of the sport. Having fun is the primary goal.
Jaycee Jenckes, a sophomore at the University of Maine at Farmington who graduated from Mt. Blue High School and played on the girls’ varsity soccer team, will lead the program this year.
Drills for all players begin Sept. 14 at Hippach Field. The regular season ends Oct. 19, followed by single elimination playoffs starting the week of Oct. 20.
Registration fees for both programs is $25 with an additional $5 nonresident fee to those who do not reside in or pay taxes to Farmington.
For the Instructional Soccer League, players are expected to dress for games in the department’s youth sports team jersey at a cost of $25. Protective shinguards are optional and may be purchased for $5 a pair.
A Prep Soccer T-shirt will be provided for each participant at no extra cost.
No registrations will be accepted over the phone. Registration forms are available at the Recreation Department office. For more information, call 778-3464.
