JEFFERSON— Maine police say they believe a body recovered from a shallow grave in Jefferson is a man last seen alive 12 years ago.
Detectives say remains found last week are those of 51-year-old Jefferson resident Charles Woodburn. The state medical examiner’s office says the death is a homicide. Detectives searched the front yard of Woodburn’s former home last week and unearthed the body.
Police say Woodburn lived with his wife Diane Darling at the house at the time of his disappearance. Darling died in 2010. Police say Darling never reported Woodburn missing, but family members did after she died.
Police did not release Woodburn’s cause of death. They are interviewing his family and friends to try to determine his whereabouts before he disappeared.
