SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner, 50 Main St., will have a variety of weekend community events in September.
Proceeds from all events benefit the mission work of the church, which includes supporting children in Haiti and Africa, the Sumner Food Bank, college scholarships for Buckfield High Seniors, camp scholarships for church youth and many local and world missions.
The annual Camp and Carve Weekend and 6 p.m. Friday Campfire with the Streaked Mountain Wood Carvers will take place on Sept. 12-14. The woodcarvers have presented many uniquely carved canes to area veterans who served in WWII through the Vietnam War. They will have carvings on display and for sale. The campfire is a mix of roasted marshmallows, music and conversation as the beanhole beans are placed in the pit.
On Saturday, Sept. 13, the church will hold a 5:30 p.m. beanhole bean public supper with the monthly raffle of baked goods and fun items. Cost is $7 per person, $20 for a family.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the church will hold its sixth annual Harvest Day and Bake Sale with the addition of a “Barn Sale” and local crafters. The event will be held rain or shine.
Shoppers will be able to buy lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the church, and children can paint pumpkins at no charge. There will be a collection box for blankets and winter clothing for children for the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, there will be a free steel drum band concert in the pavilion at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be sold.
