WESTBROOK — More than 275 bicyclists are heading out for a 350-mile ride across Maine.
The seven-day BikeMaine ride begins on Sunday in Westbrook. Riders will stay overnight in several host communities along the way, including Norway, Gardiner and Boothbay Harbor. The trek ends Sept. 13 back in Westbrook.
The ride, organized by Maine’s largest bicycle advocacy organization, started last year with more than 260 participants.
Nancy Grant, executive director of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, says the event is aimed at giving back to local communities and reviving bicycle tourism in parts of Maine that riders don’t usually visit.
