FARMINGTON — A proposed family recreation area for fishing and play comes before the Planning Board at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Municipal Building.
Earlier this year, Board Chairman Clayton King brought his idea to create a farm pond at 294 Titcomb Hill Road before the board. He planned to return for site review approval to construct a picnic area with a volleyball area, horseshoe pits and other features.
Some delays have occurred over past months, but digging for the pond is expected to start next week, King said Friday. He has submitted a site review application and a soil erosion and stormwater management application to be reviewed Monday.
The site is across from CJ’s Appliances, from where the fishing and recreation area will be managed. The business is owned by Clayton and Joyce King.
Along with fishing, King plans to include a sandbox for children, swings for youths and adults, volleyball courts, horseshoes and covered picnic tables with fire pits, he said.
It will be a place for families to enjoy the outdoors for the day. He foresees something similar to the setup at Small Falls between Madrid Township and Rangeley, he previously said.
King also envisions weddings taking place at the scenic pond and has already had requests to schedule dates, he said.
The stocked pond will be ready for spring fishing, he said.
In other business, the board will consider a site review application from Coca-Cola Bottling & Distribution Co. at 282 Farmington Falls Road for construction of a parking area and demolition of a section of a building.
