Lessons from the road

Fifty fourth-graders from Longley Elementary School in Lewiston attended a field trip to the camp to learn about the weeklong, 400-mile BikeMaine event. Webster Skyped with students during his 2013 trip, and teachers Courtney Wildes and Diane Wigant decided to take the social studies lesson a step further this year. Webster and his wife rode 60 miles from Norway to Winthrop. “That is the best welcome on a bike that we have ever had,” Webster said as students held up handmade signs with messages such as “Go Mr. Webster and Mrs. Webster.” Someone from the Bike Coalition of Maine will visit Longley school Thursday to teach bicycle safety.
