RUMFORD — Good times at the Sons of Italy Lodge at noon Saturday, Sept. 13, will include Bocci, hot dogs, chips and drinks.

There is no charge. All are invited: members, past members and future members.

Poodunck Club plans cookout

DIXFIELD — The Poodunck Snowmobile Club will hold their annual cookout at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the clubhouse on Canton Point Road.

Story hour at Mexico Library

RUMFORD — Story Hour for Toddlers and Preschoolers at the Mexico Public Library will take place every Tuesday at 10 a.m. this school year, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Red Hat Mommas plan next outing

BETHEL — On July 30, 13 Red Hat Mommas were the guests of Linda and Bill French for a potluck lunch at their home in Rumford Center.

The host was dressed in full Red Hat attire.

The group will go to Sunday River to ride on the Chondola and have lunch at the S.S. Milton’s in Bethel on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Everyone will pay their own.

They will leave Marden’s parking lot at 10:30 a.m.

Annual Lithuanian Picnic on Sept. 20

RUMFORD — The annual Lithuanian Picnic will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Black Mountain of Maine.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with homemade Lithuanian food served at noon. Price is $15 for adults and $6 for children under age 10.

There will be live musical entertainment from Eastlande and Friends, playing traditional and alternative Lithuanian folk music. You may see a variety of instruments onstage, including accordian, keyboard, violin, ukulele, percussion, wood flute, chalameau (birbyne) psaltry (kankles).

Eastlande, with core members Rimas Polikaitis and Ruta Pakstas Cole, has collaborated with second generation Lithuanian musician David Tamulewich and his American folk music duo “Mustard’s Retreat” to create their program “Crossroads of Lithuanian and N. American Folk Music,” presented in English, and designed to familiarize the public with Lithuanian music, and its cultural, historical and mythological context.

Free conference for vets, family

FARMINGTON — Bringing Worlds Together, a free conference for military veterans, family/community members and service providers will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at University of Maine, Farmington.

Keynote speaker will be Kayla Williams,  Arabic linguist and military intelligence, who wrote the books, “Love My Rifle More Than You. Young and Female in the US Army” and “Plenty of Time When We Get Home, Love and Recovery In the Aftermath of War.”

The featured speaker, Robert H. Moore, is a board-certified traumatologist.

Dixfield church holding quilt raffle

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Congregational Church will raffle a homemade queen size quilt at the October Fest to be held Oct. 4 at the Church Annex.

The quilt was made by women of the church and community this spring. Each square is quilted differently on the back of each big square on front.

The tickets are $2 each or three for $5. To get tickets, call Deb Morang at 562-8006 and or join the group at the October Fest. The October Fest will be from 8 a.m. to noon and will feature the popular pumpkin waffles for breakfast again this year. Watch for more information on the October Fest in the coming weeks.
