LEWISTON — Independent Mark Cayer has announced his candidacy for District 61 in the Maine State House of Representatives.

Born and raised in Lewiston, Cayer attended Lewiston schools and is currently serving his third term as Lewiston City Councilor for Ward 6, his second term as council president. He previously volunteered on several committees and as a board member for organizations dedicated to supporting victims of sexual assault and troubled youth.

With a 20-year career in law enforcement in Central Maine, Cayer served the public as a lieutenant in charge of criminal investigations. He is currently a small business owner.

Cayer said in a news release that he offers Lewiston an “independent voice” in Augusta and that property tax payers will always be his first priority.

In order to stop shifting taxes onto property tax payers, Cayer believes in a focused economic development strategy to grow targeted sectors statewide, including health care and supporting industries.

Cayer has been married for 29 years, is the father of two grown children and the proud grandfather of three grandchildren.
