FARMINGTON — RSU 9 Superintendent Tom Ward presented school board Director James Black a certificate on behalf of the board Tuesday for Black’s service to the school district.
Black of Wilton resigned from the board Tuesday because of his new job duties and family responsibilities. He was elected to a three-year term in June 2013.
Black is the new dean of students and athletic director at Mt. Abram High School in Salem Township.
Ward and board members thanked Black and wished him the best.
Wilton Town Manager Rhonda Irish said the school board vacancy will be on the agenda for the next select board meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the board’s meeting room at the Town Office.
Selectpersons will appoint a person to fill the position until the next municipal election, which will be held in June of 2015, she said Wednesday.
“At that time, there will be an opening to fill James’ position for the remainder of his term, which will be for one year,” Irish said. “I do not believe they will actually appoint a person at the next meeting because we do not have the name of anyone interested at this point, so it may be on our Oct. 7 meeting that we appoint someone.”
