BETHEL — The West Parish Congregational Church will host its ninth annual CROP Walk on Saturday, Sept. 21, to raise money to provide hunger relief globally and locally.

The walk for CROP, which stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty, is a 3-mile event for which participants gather pledges and walk around the village.

Jane Chandler, a member of the church, said the CROP walk has raised more than $25,000 toward eliminating global and local hunger over the past nine years.

Most of the money raised this year will go to the Church World Service, which according to a news release, is an organization that “partners with aid agencies around the world to provide disaster relief as well as long-term micro-loans and development projects in more than 80 countries.”

Chandler said 25 percent of the money raised will go to the Bethel Food Pantry for its work to relieve hunger in Maine.

A luncheon is being held at 11:30 a.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church, with the CROP walk beginning at noon.
