TOPSHAM — Eryn Doiron sliced through three defenders and scored just 7:52 into the game and the Mt. Blue defense held on from there as the Cougars topped Mt. Ararat 1-0 in KVAC girls’ soccer action Saturday. The win is only Mt. Blue’s second over Mt. Ararat in girls’ soccer.

Keeper Addie Schanz made 13 saves for the Cougars (2-0-1) behind a solid defensive effort from Moesha Harrington, Sierra Hoes, Sarah Cummings and Addie Brinkman. 

Lauren Williams made one save and Kate Guerin stopped two for the Eagles (2-2).

Lewiston 2, Hampden 1

LEWISTON — Junior Alanna Taylor scored the game-winning goal late in the first half as the Lewiston girls’ soccer team won it’s first game in two years, a 2-1 victory over visiting Hampden on Saturday. Taylor drove home the rebound of a shot by Adela Kaliliwa off Hampden goalie Emily Cotter eight minutes after Kristina Blais tied the game for the Blue Devils (1-3).

Lewiston keeper Kelsey St. Cyr made 10 saves in the game for the win, and Gabby Barrett added an assist on Blais’ goal. Aubra Linn scored for Hampden (1-1-1), and Cotter made nine saves in a losing effort.

Madison 10, Winthrop 2

WINTHROP — Kayla Bess scored five goals as Madison bolted to a 10-2 victory over Winthrop in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Jillian Holden and Whitney Bess added to the Bulldogs’ scoring with two goals apiece.

Sierra Huff and Shie Smith tallied one each for the full complement of Rambler goals in the losing effort.

Poland 4, Old Orchard Beach 0

POLAND — Katriana Pratt scored a natural hat trick and Nathalie Theriault added a goal and an assist as Poland downed visiting Old Orchard Beach, 4-0. Marissa Zink chipped in with a pair of assists for the Knights (1-1), and Jessie Quint added another helper in the win.

Haley Whitworth turned aside eight shots for Poland, while her counterpart Tiffany Leclair stopped eight shots for OOB (0-2-1).

Monmouth 6, Telstar 0

BETHEL — Emily Grandahl and Sydney Wilson each found the back of the net twice to power Monmouth to a 6-0 victory over Telstar in girls’ soccer. Maddie Neal made a pair of saves to seal the shutout win for the undefeated Mustangs (4-0).

Haley Fletcher opened the scoring for Monmouth in the first half, and Caleigh Copeland also scored.

Tehya Johnson made 15 saves for the Rebels (0-3).

Lisbon 3, Boothbay 0

LISBON — Three different Lisbon players scored and Stevie Charest needed only one save to preserve the shutout as the Greyhounds toppled Boothbay 3-0 in MVC field hockey action Saturday.

Chase Collier, Charlotte Moody and Ari Kahler scored for Lisbon (4-1), with Molly Nicholson picking up the lone assist on the afternoon.

Erica Eames faced 31 Lisbon shots and withstood 16 penalty corner tries against her in the cage for the Seahawks.

Oxford Hills 1, Bangor 0

BANGOR — Lexie Caron redirected a pass from Abby Angevine into the cage with 8:18 to play in regulation to lift Oxford Hills to a 1-0 win over Bangor in KVAC field hockey play Saturday.

Shannon Fillebrown made four saves for the Vikings (4-1), while Bangor keeper Rachel Luc stopped six in the loss.

Cony 6, Lewiston 1

LEWISTON — Cari Hopkins scored a hat trick as Cony cruised to a 6-1 victory over Lewiston in field hockey action Saturday afernoon.

The Rams took a 4-1 lead at the midpoint.

Junior forward Avery Gagnon spoiled the shutout just before the half for the Blue Devils.

St. Dom’s 1, Hall-Dale 0

AUBURN — Freshman Hannah Trottier-Braun took a pass from Emma Samson and beat Hall-Dale goalie Molly French in the opening minutes of the first half, and St. Dom’s held on to defeat the Bulldogs 1-0. The win was the first of the season for the Saints (1-3-1).

French made 22 saves in the game for Hall-Dale (0-5). Taylor Bergeron made nine saves in St. Dom’s cage. Elizabeth Perkins also picked up an assist on the Saints’ goal.

Edward Little 0, Hampden 0 (2OT)

HAMPDEN — Goalie Danica Nadeau was tremendous in goal, making 28 saves as Edward Little fought to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Hampden Academy in field hockey action Saturday.

The Red Eddies (2-2-1) had a couple of promising breakaways in the second overtime frame, but came up short. Kirsten Lupher was superb on offense for Edward Little.

Monmouth 5, Telstar 0

BETHEL —  Hunter Richardson scored a pair of goals to lead Monmouth to a 5-0 shutout victory over Telstar in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

The Mustangs overpowered the Rebels with a 36-9 margin in shots. Noah Bates, Josh Rent and Sherman Spears pitched in with a goal apiece for Monmouth.

Lewiston 4, Hampden 0

HAMPDEN — Abdi Shariff scored three goals and Hassan “Speedy” Mohamed added another as Lewiston rolled to a 4-0 win over Hampden Academy in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Austin Wing stopped six shots in the shutout for the Devils (4-0), while Mike Wing and Biwé Mohamed played solid defensively.

Bates 2, Hamilton 1

LEWISTON —  Senior Alex Millstrom scored her first career goal in the 90th minute to lift Bates College to a 2-1 victory over Hamilton College in its NESCAC home opener Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (3-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from senior Dakota Donovan in the 54th minute before the Continentals (2-1) tied the game on a tally from first-year Amanda Becker in the 81st minute.

Goalie Rachel Cooley stopped four shots for Hamilton, while senior goalkeeper Alyssa Morgosh made seven saves to earn her third win of the season in net for Bates.

Hamilton 2, Bates 1 (OT)

LEWISTON — Eva Rosencrans knocked in the rebound off a save early in overtime to give Hamilton College a 2-1 NESCAC victory over Bates in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (0-2) assumed a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when defender Jill Conway’s open-field takeaway was forwarded to Sydney Cowles, who carried the ball briefly before sending a through upfield to Shannon Beaton. Beaton smacked the ball past the Hamilton goalie.

With 20:30 remaining in regulation, the Continentals (2-1) tied the game when Sam Sherman executed a slapshot that got past goalkeeper, Katie Knox.

Hamilton 2, Bates 0

LEWISTON — Sophomore Alec Talsania and senior Jacob Frost each scored second-half goals as Hamilton College secured a 2-0 victory over Bates College in NESCAC men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (0-3-1) and Continentals (2-0-1) played a scoreless first half before Talsania put the visitors on the board in the 49th minute.

One of the Bobcats’ best chances in the second half came from first-year Justin Yacovino. But, the lofted shot went just over the bar and fell into the netting on the other side of the end line.

MIT 3, Bates 0; DeSales 3, Bates 1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Bates College dropped its final two matches at the MIT Invitational, falling to host MIT, 3-0, and to DeSales Unviersity, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Rockwell Cage.

Sophomore Chandler McGrath paced the Bobcats with seven kills and 13 digs in the first set, while junior Abby Leberman posted six kills. Junior Laryssa Schepel tallied 12 digs ,and first-year Jacqueline Forney dished out 15 assists.

Junior Mary Deneen led Bates with nine kills in the second set, but fell to DeSales, 3-1, in the squads’ fourth and final match at the MIT invitational.

Junior Brynn Wendell notched seven kills, while McGrath registered 10 digs and six kills. Schepel contributed 15 digs, and seniors Tess Walther and Miranda Shapiro distributed 19 and 11 assists, respectively.
