BETHEL — Pre-treating town roads with calcium chloride and possibly expanding the veterans park are on the selectmen agenda Monday.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the Town Office.

Interim Town Manager Steve Eldridge said selectmen previously asked about speaking to the Maine Department of Transportation about pre-treating town roads with calcium chloride before putting salt on them.

He said the Maine Local Roads Division of the Maine Department of Transportation is visiting the Bethel Public Works Department to discuss the issue.

“After they meet in the afternoon with the Public Works Department, MDOT is going to meet at 7 p.m. with the selectmen to continue discussing the matter,” Eldridge said. “It’s my understanding that the town had a rough winter, so this could be a solution.”

In other business, selectmen will discuss whether or not to use a piece of tax-acquired property to expand the veterans park.

“We acquired a piece of property on Main Street that sits adjacent to our veterans park,” Eldridge said. “We are planning on expanding the veterans park, but the woman who lives in the house next door to the tax-acquired property has been parking there for as long as she can remember. She doesn’t really have a parking space on her property, and the board doesn’t want her parking on the street because when we have winter storms, she’ll have to keep moving.”

Selectmen will discuss what course of action to take and what to use the property for, Eldridge said.

Other items for discussion include:

• Liquor and entertainment permit renewal for Roosters Roadhouse.

• Discussion on voting credentials for the Maine Municipal Association business meeting Oct. 1.

• Adoption of post-issuance compliance policy.
