LEWISTON — Community members are invited to participate in a French sing-along session at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St.
Jacynthe Jacques, Aliette Couturier and friends will lead attendees in singing a selection of local Franco favorites such as “La Cantiniere” and “Vive la Compagnie.” Providing musical accompaniment will be pianist Jeannette Gregoire.
“We’re excited to be kicking off our fifth season of sing-alongs,” said Jacques, “and we welcome anyone who likes music – whether they are Franco or not – to come join the fun. Song books are provided so that even those who are unfamiliar with the songs or less-than-fluent in the French language can easily follow along.”
Organized in 2010 by the Maine Folque Co-op in collaboration with USM LAC’s Franco-American Collection, the monthly series of song sessions takes place from September through June, usually in Room 170 at the college, with occasional forays out to local retirement communities and nursing homes.
Admission is free to all. More information is available by calling Jacynthe Jacques at 576-4109.
