Only three weeks remain to sign up for the Dirigo Fall Basketball League. With over 150 teams already registered, you are guaranteed competitive games in convenient locations for boys and girls in grades 3 -11.

Middle School Select Invitational League

 Are you frustrated with the limitations placed on their development by Middle School Basketball and current leagues during the winter months? If you answered yes, the Middle School Select Invitational League is the answer to your problems.

The league will begin play this year with seventh and eighth grade boys’ and girls’ teams. This league is geared for top teams, AAU or school level or top players looking to participate at a higher level. Only 5-6 teams will be in each age division.

The league will take play mostly on Sundays with two games and played primarily in Southern Maine. If you have a team or player interested in playing ,contact Lenny Holmes at mainehoops@gmail.com for more details.

Harlem Wizards are coming

Don’t miss this fun-filled, high flying and interactive community event featuring the world famous Harlem Wizards basketball team as they take on the Maine Slam Dunkers, a team of teachers, staff and community members from our RSU 16 schools on Sept. 24. The event will be held at Poland Regional High School at 7 p.m. General Admission for students is $8 advance or $10 at the door. Adults is $10 advance or $12 at the door. Ticket sales location include: Elm Street School, Mechanic Falls Town Office, Minot Town Office, Poland Recreation Department, Rainbow Federal Credit Union – Mechanic Falls branch. NFl Punt, Pass and Kick Competition

Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Rumford Parks and Rumford Lodge of Elks #862 host an NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday, Sept. 21; The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6- 5. It will be held at Hosmer Field at 9 a.m. for boys and girls age 6-15. Registration begins 1/2 hour before competition starts.

Each participant must fill out a registration form and have it signed by their parent or legal guardian. They also must give a valid copy of their birth certificate. Lewiston Middle School hockey tryouts

The Lewiston Middle School School hockey team will be holding tryouts on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. Tryouts will be held for grades 5-6 from 5:20 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. Girls only practice will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and grades seven and eight from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The tryout fee is $25. If this fee creates hardship, please contact Demons Hockey President Steve Bannister to make payment arrangements. Scholarships can be made available. Registration begins 1 hour prior to tryout. All participants must bring valid 2013-14 USA Hockey registration to tryout in order to get on the ice.
