SUMNER — Selectmen on Tuesday voted to allow ATV riders to temporarily use DeCoster, Rosenberg and Barrows roads until the next annual town meeting in August 2015.

Dana Stevens of the Black Mountain ATV Club asked the board for permission and said it would open two more loop trails. He said it would be good for the town and the economy.

Signs will be posted before the trails are used, he said.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Kelly Stewart said the information would be put on the town website.

In other business, Town Clerk Susan Runes said $719 was raised from a bottle drive and $1,168 from a barbecue dinner, with the money going to scholarships.

Road Commissioner Jim Ketch said a culvert was installed on Labrador Pond Road and ditching was done on Bonney Road.

Edwin Hinshaw was appointed to the Arrabine J. Dunn Relief Fund Committee and James McCarthy was appointed to the Board of Appeals.

The Arrabine J. Dunn Relief Fund was established by Ralph Dunn in 1996. Its purpose is to provide relief to Sumner residents who suffer losses from disasters, such as fires, according to Sun Journal archives.
