Dirigo has shown every opponent a different dynamic of its Wing-T offense through the first month of the Class D West football season.
Tyler Frost barreling through the middle. Riley Robinson connecting through the air to Gavin Arsenault.
Both those elements were in place on a steamy afternoon at Telstar, but by and large, Saturday was the Casey brothers’ turn.
Mike and Joe Casey each scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the undefeated Cougars past the Rebels, 39-6, in Bethel.
Joe Casey raced 46 yards to the end zone on the second play from scrimmage for Dirigo (4-0). Before the end of the first quarter, he was in the end zone again, this time from 5 yards out for a 13-0 lead.
Noah Rose made a fumble recovery for Telstar (0-4) to stifle another promising Dirigo drive in that period, but the Cougars checked out with help from the other Casey early in the second quarter.
Mike’s first touchdown covered 51 yards. Frost added a 21-yarder before the end of the half.
Freshman Jon Wainwright’s interception preserved a 26-0 lead at intermission.
Dirigo went to the skies early in the third, with Robinson locating Arsenault for a 30-yard score.
Mike Casey went 34 yards for his second TD and the final Dirigo points.
Chris Chappie put Telstar on the board with relentless running in the fourth quarter. After his runs of 20 and 21 yards moved the Rebels into range, the fullback capped the march with a 6-yard rush.
Mike Casey led the Cougars with 122 yards on oinly five carries. Frost added nine attempts for 91 yards, and Joe Casey chalked up four for 68.
Dirigo will scrimmage the Lincoln Academy club team Friday night during Campbell Conference bye week in what will be the Cougars’ homecoming contest.
