NORWAY — The October schedule for the First Unitarian Church, 479 Main St., is announced. Services start at 11 a.m. followed by a coffee hour.

On Oct. 5, the Rev. Fayre Stephenson will talk on “Good Grief.” Using Dr. Roberta Temes’s classic book, “Living with an Empty Chair,” the congregation will explore the experience of grief.

Cynthia Reedy will discuss “Twilight and Evening Star” on Oct. 12. As the autumn season arrives, the congregation will reflect on the joy and comfort of this evening time of the year and of the twilight of their lives. Poetry and song will celebrate the sights and sounds of this time of year.

Reedy is a life-long, third-generation UU. She grew up in the Melrose, Mass., UU Church and worked at the Edmonds, Wash., UU Church with the Rev. Robert Fulghum. She is a long-distance runner and spends time exploring the paths and byways of the Oxford Hills region.

On Oct. 19 Jennifer Wilson will talk on “The Story of Sue: A Heartbreaking Who’s Who.” “I once knew a woman named Sue…” The compelling life stories of some famous authors, poets and artists will be discussed.

Wilson is a Maine farmer, author and itinerant Quaker minister. She writes from her home in Troy where she and her husband raise Scottish Highland cattle. A frequent guest speaker in the Norway and West Paris pulpits, Wilson is the creator of the Sovereign Series.

“You Can Tame a Monster” will the the topic Stephenson takes on Oct. 26. Noting that Halloween is just around the corner, the ghosts and goblins of the holiday’s Celtic Samhain roots will be looked at and the congregation will reflect on the monsters (fears, challenges) in their lives. The children from the religious education program will join for the first part of the service.
