JAY — The Town Office and Police Department have been challenged by Spruce Mountain High School to be involved with the School Spirit Challenge, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.
“We will be collecting money and food donations here at the Town Office,” she said.
The challenge is a friendly competition between schools to show school pride and spirit, while helping the community, according to a handout LaFreniere presented.
She is asking residents to support the effort by donating food or money. Every $1 donated equals 5 pounds of food, she said.
The program is designed to promote the community and good stewardship through an ongoing food drive to benefit the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.
Spruce Mountain will kick off the food challenge at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the school during a “We are the Phoenix” showcase.
The food will be collected through the end of October.
WGME 13 will be at the high school Thursday, Oct. 9. Community members are asked to be in the high school gym at 6 a.m. to show support for the school.
WGME 13 and FOX 23 will feature a different high school every Friday on Good Day Maine until Oct. 31.
