PARIS — The Paris Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge concluded Aug. 14, with a celebration party held two days later. At the party, participants received rewards and the drawing was held for a Kindle Fire tablet.

Seventy children participated this summer, reading a total of 232,290 minutes. Every 10 hours of reading earned a child a chance in the drawing for the Kindle Fire tablet. For reading at least 10 hours, children received a free Happy Meal; for reading 20 hours or more, they received an $8.50 gift certificate.

The top three readers each received $30 gift certificates, with the next 20 receiving $10 certificates. Every child received a book bag and a certificate attesting to their summer reading achievements.

Rachel Newcomb was the top reader this summer, reading 32,190 minutes between June 14 and Aug. 14. With her 53 chances in the drawing, she was also the winner of the Kindle Fire.
