OTISFIELD — State police Tuesday night asked people for help in locating an Otisfield man who fled in handcuffs from a cruiser.

Maxx Noble, 27, was arrested by troopers Adam Fillebrown and Jason Wing on felony charges stemming from an investigation by Maine State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.

While the troopers were inside Noble’s residence, he unbuckled his seat belt, unlocked the cruiser door and fled into nearby woods wearing only socks on his feet, McCausland said.

Over the next four hours, troopers, aided by tracking dogs, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Oxford police, searched a wide area near the Harrison town line without success. Deputies and troopers were stationed around the neighborhood, alerting neighbors and motorists.

Noble was last seen wearing a blue jacket, a hooded sweatshirt and white socks. His sneakers had been removed at the time of his arrest.

Noble will face additional charges of theft and escape, McCausland said.

McCausland warned that Noble is desperate and people should avoid contact with him.

In 2006, Noble was convicted of conspiracy in the destruction of the Fryeburg Academy gymnasium and, in 2010 was accused of assaulting three youths with a baseball bat. Two of the victims were treated at Bridgton Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

One victim was taken to Central Maine Medical Center and put into a medically induced coma for his severe head injuries.

Anyone with information about Noble’s whereabouts is asked to contact Maine State Police in Gray at 657-3030 or the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office at 743-9554.
