NEWRY — A public hearing to discuss concept designs for reconstructing 1,200 feet of Sunday River Road is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Bear River Grange Hall, Assistant Town Clerk Laura Lowell said Wednesday.

Discussion on the project began late in 2013, after Code Enforcement Officer Dave Bonney told selectmen that the section near near Nordic Knoll subdivision and Letter S swimming hole was in need of rebuilding.

Bonney asked Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls to draft a proposal for fixing the road.

The project is estimated to cost between $300,000 and $320,000.

Nordic Knoll Road residents David Walker and Nancy Babcock said in October 2013 that the Letter S section of the road was very deteriorated and needs work, describing it as “little pieces of asphalt put together.”

Lowell said Sunday River Resort engineer Joe Aloisio was selected to provide engineering for the project.
