WALES — School board members will take up the idea of privatized busing — again — on Wednesday and could vote to put the issue to rest for a while.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said he’ll lay out some issues around the topic at the meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Oak Hill High School.

Last spring, after again weighing potential savings against an outpouring of parents and drivers, the RSU 4 board voted to put the topic in “abeyance,” Hodgkin said.

“We got some advice from our attorney to essentially table to matter,” he said. “The board has now decided they may not want to hold it in abeyance anymore, they may want to consider moving on it.”

The district has 16 bus drivers. Two positions were cut in this year’s budget.

“It’s kind of hanging over (the drivers’) heads; it’s not good for morale,” Hodgkin said. “The board is going to attempt to make a decision of some sort on Wednesday and hopefully clear the air.”
