TURNER — Selectmen on Wednesday signed the warrant for a special town meeting to vote on funding for the Rescue Department.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Leavitt Area High School.

One article asked voters to increase the 2015 Rescue Department budget by $161,588 and to appropriate $61,588 from undesignated surplus, $60,000 from overlay and transfer $40,000 from the paving and construction account to fund it. The town would keep all Rescue Department revenues, which are estimated at $200,000 for the balance of the year.

Another article asked voters to fund contracted rescue services for up to $218,612 for the balance of the fiscal year, and to appropriate $40,256 from overlay and the unexpended balance of the 2015 rescue budget to pay for such services. The town would forfeit all revenues to the contracted service.

In other business at the meeting, selectmen also voted to put the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center septic system on hold until spring to see if it is sufficient. They also voted to give the job to the lowest bidder if the work is needed.
