LEWISTON — The inaugural “Rocktober BreastFest” benefit concert in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Irish Twins Pub, 743 Main St.
Five rock bands will donate their time and talent for the cause, including: Dead Season, Beyond the Fall, Stronghold, Left on the Outside, and 13 High.
Doors open at 4 p.m.; $10 donation at the door.
There will be raffles, auction items, door prizes, 50/50, and Happy Hour and drink specials for those over 21 with valid ID. Live music will go from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
All of the proceeds will benefit the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.
In partnership with Central Maine Medical Center, the Dempsey Center was founded in 2008 by Amanda Dempsey’s children, Patrick, Mary and Alicia. Amanda Dempsey battled ovarian cancer for 17 years and died early this year.
One of the BreastFest concert organizers, Trisha Marston, lost her own mother to breast cancer in 2007. In a press release, she said, “My mom was a true inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.” Marston has been involved with the annual Dempsey Challenge since it started in 2009.
This year, she captained the team “Pink Angels” which raised over $12,000 in her mother’s memory for the Dempsey Center. “I made a promise to myself and to my mother that I would do everything in my power to honor and celebrate her life, to keep her memory alive,” Marston said, including raising money to help research for a cancer cure.
