NEWPORT — Madison Noel netted a pair of goals and dished off an assist to propel Leavitt to a 3-0 win over Nokomis in a late-season KVAC boys’ soccer tilt Friday.
Noel was on fire for the Hornets (7-6), even bending in their first tally in amazing fashion. Matt Grondin also scored in the second frame to complete the scoring.
Veteran kepper Ben Fullerton made four saves to notch the shutout, while Doug Kimball turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Nokomis (3-9-1).
Monmouth 6, Telstar 1
MONMOUTH — Noah Bates led a group of five players to record goals Friday as Monmouth overpowered Telstar 6-1 in an MVC soccer matchup.
Bates led the Mustangs (10-3) with a pair of goals, while single tallies from Nathan Clement, Chandler Harris, Josh Reny and Avery Pomerleau completed the scoring. Maverick Griffin scored the Rebels’ lone goal in the second frame.
Bradley Neal made six saves for Monmouth, while Austin Ludden turned aside 19 shots for Telstar.
Mt. Abram 1, Carrabec 0
SALEM — Finn Mackay collected the ball, made a perfect cross to center, where Trevor Brackley one-timed a shot into the net just 7:27 into the contest to give Mt. Abram a 1-0 victory over Carrabec Friday.
The win avenged a 1-0 loss to the Cobras (7-6) on their field earlier this season. Tristen Dyer stopped all eight shots he faced to preserve the shutout.
Trent Richardson deflected six shots for Carrabec before leaving the contest with a wrist injury. Nicholas Labeau turned aside four shots in relief duyring the second frame.
MCI 6, Spruce Mountain 3
JAY — Slade Emery netted four goals Friday to propel MCI to a 6-3 win over Spruce Mountain in more late-season MVC boys’ soccer.
Tasai Chu and Evan Varney also tallied for the Huskies to complete the scoring. Tristan Begin scored twice for the winless Phoenix (0-13), while Tyler Ritter’s single goal gave them a 3-2 advantage at the break.
Nick Guild made 10 saves for Spruce Mountain.
Mountain Valley 2, Oak Hill 1
WALES — Felix Promm scored the game-clincher as Mountain Valley edged Oak Hill 2-1 in boys’ soccer action Friday.
The Raiders (3-9) led 1-0 at the half. Steve Knousl netted Oak Hill’s goal 20 minutes into the contest.
The Falcons (12-0-1) responded with their first goal in the 74th minute when Gustav Gavenas found the back of the net. Promm added another goal just one minute later for Mountain Valley.
Goalie Kyle Field made 22 saves for Oak Hill, while goalie Dakota Jacques turned back seven shots to earn the win in net for Mountain Valley.
Girls’ soccer
Leavitt 1, Nokomis 1 (2OT)
TURNER — Lili Cousineau redirected Amanda Poulin’s corner with just under six minutes left in regulation to knot up the game as Leavitt battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in girls’ soccer action Friday.
Nokomis struck first as Anna Smested broke free on a breakaway in the first half. Leavitt turned up the pressure in the second half, stifling the Warriors’ attack.
Goalie Emily Randall made 12 saves for Nokomis, while goalie Angela Daigle prevented eight for Leavitt.
