FARMINGTON — The Recreation Department is taking registrations for its first Pre-Season Basketball Camp for Farmington area students in grades two through six.
The deadline for registering is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.
Participants will meet Saturdays at either 9 or 10:30 a.m. in the Bjorn at the Community Center, from Nov. 1 to 22 .
Players will learn and practice basic skills and gain an understanding of the rules associated with the game. Through individual fundamental drills, students will be taught the proper techniques for shooting, dribbling, passing and defense. As the players progress, they will be taught more challenging team-oriented drills.
Session 1 for grades two and three meets from 9 to 10:15 a.m. and Session 2 for grades four, five and six meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Program director will be Jaycee Jenckes. She graduated from Mount Blue High School where she played one year on the junior varsity team and three years on varsity, two of which she was captain. She started playing basketball in Wilton in first grade.
She has worked with children at summer basketball camps and last year was the assistant director of the Junior Pro Basketball Program and the Prep Basketball Program. Jenckes received an award for outstanding volunteer coach and is coach of the Mount Blue Middle School girls’ seventh-grade team.
The registration fee is $15, paid by check to Jaycee Jenckes. There is a $5 fee charged to participants who do not reside in Farmington, which includes West Farmington, Farmington Falls and Fairbanks, or whose parents do not pay property taxes to Farmington.
For more information about the basketball camp, contact the Recreation Department office in the Farmington Community Center at 778-3464. Registrations will not be taken over the phone. Registration forms will be taken from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 30.
