SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Area residents have recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Air Force Airman Desiree N. Johns is the daughter of Kendra Johns of Sabattus and sister of Alex Johns of Augusta. She is a 2013 graduate of Oak Hill High School, Wales.

Air Force Airman Matthew J. Robinson is the son of Mark Robinson of Fayette. He is a 2011 graduate of Maranacook High School, Readfield.

Air Force Airman Jason R. Morse is the son of Maryann and Jay Morse of Torrington, Conn.; and the grandson of Ronald Morse of Norway. He earned a diploma in 2011 from Oliver Wolcott Voctional Regional Technical High School, Torrington, Conn.

U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Ethan W. Schmidt is the son of William P. Schmidt of Dell Rapids, S.D., the brother of Jessica N. Thornell of Mount Vernon and the nephew of Angie Eide of Stratham, N.H. He earned a diploma in 2014 from St. Mary High School, Dell Rapids, S.D.

ORONO — Laura D. Dunham has enrolled in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at the University of Maine. Upon graduation and completion of ROTC Military Science courses at the host university, the cadet receives a bachelor’s degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

At the host college or university, ROTC cadets receive training in leadership, management skills and military science courses needed to be an Army officer or a successful citizen in a civilian career. The program trains cadets to succeed as effective leaders in any competitive environment. Army officers serve as leaders, counselors, strategists and motivators, who lead other soldiers in all situations occurring in ever-changing environments.

Dunham is the daughter of Diane and Kenneth Dunham of Temple.

She is a 2013 graduate of Mt. Blue High School, Farmington.
