This letter is to challenge information in Arthur Berry’s letter about John Cleveland (Oct. 6).
Until this election cycle, I do not remember hearing that Cleveland was not earning his consulting fee or that his integrity was in question.
The $4.5 million for the water line was voted on and passed by the citizens of Poland. It was endorsed by our CEDC and property owners in the areas that it services.
The work Berry referred to was not being done due to errors by Cleveland. The state recently required the town to separate expenses of the two Poland Spring TIFs. Cleveland estimated the cost was $6,900. After presenting a bill for $12,725, he had the integrity to honor his original estimate of $6,900.
That shows a person of integrity who is willing to admit he erred in his estimate but then honored what he said.
