WILTON — Scarecrows have gathered on Main Street in preparation for Saturday’s ScareCrow Fest.

The Wilton Events Committee has planned a day packed with events for all ages, according to Renee Woodard, committee member.

ScareCrow Fest events will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the downtown. Most events are around the monument area, she said.

Also, a Fit Girls 5K run/walk begins at 10 a.m. from Bass Park. Registration for the race starts at 8:30 a.m.

Once again, brave souls are planning a plunge into Wilson Lake at 2 p.m. across from Bass Park.

The Freezin-for-a-Reason Polar Plunge raises funds for programs at Western Maine Community Action. The plunge started last year to raise funds because none were included in the county budget.

As a kickoff to ScareCrow Fest, some downtown businesses and individuals created unique scarecrows for display on Main Street, Woodard said. The scarecrows were set up a couple weeks ago, she said.

Highlights on Saturday include:

* A pie-eating contest at 3 p.m. at Ray Ray’s Cafe with registration from noon to 2 p.m.

* A pumpkin carving party from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church, with participants bringing their own pumpkins.

* Window painting sponsored by Damon Photography, storytime and refreshments at noon at the Wilton Free Public Library.

* A Kid’s Korner from noon to 4 p.m. in the lot next to Key Bank. It will feature a petting zoo, bounce house, scavenger hunt, pumpkin bowling, crafts and games.

Artisans and vendors will set up near KeyBank from noon to 4 p.m. A primitive home decor artisan and Thirty-One gifts and handbag consultants are among those attending, she said.

The Wilton Farm and Home Museum will offer hot cocoa and tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival ends with a bonfire and s’mores from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ray Ray’s Cafe. Cold Blue Steel, a country music band and light show, will entertain from 4 to 8 p.m. near the monument.

The Congregational Church will offer a baked potato bar from noon to 1:30 p.m. The New Great Wall will offer an ice cream, cheesecake and sweet doughnut special. Ray’s Cafe moves outside for the day to offer fried dough, french fries and other foods, Woodard said.

There is also face painting from 9 a.m. to noon at Sassy Scizzors, a photography contest and photobooth from noon to 6 p.m. at Damon Photography, and balloons available from noon to 4 p.m. at Expenet.
