Firefighters were called to the two-story home at 10 Cornell St. at about 2 a.m. for a report of a house on fire with flames showing.

Everyone had escaped the house.

A neighbor said she was was awoken by pounding on her door. When she answered, there were flames shooting from the window of the house next door, and a resident of the house was yelling that his house was on fire.

β€œHe said he thought it had started in the back bathroom,” the neighbor said. β€œI was scared because that back part of the house is so close to ours. We got out of our house, too, to be safe. This just goes to show you always need a plan, you never know. It was scary with the flames right next door.”

Firefighters arrived quickly and knocked down the flames. They remained at the scene in the intermittent rain, making sure there were no hot spots remaining in the eaves and walls of the home. According to fire officials on scene, no one needed to be transported to the hospital.
