WILTON — Pledges are coming in for Saturday’s second annual Freezin-For-A-Reason polar plunge, a cold dip in Wilson Lake.
The plunge takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the lake across from Bass Park. Registration begins at noon.
The event was started last year by Western Maine Community Action as a fundraiser to provide for the organization’s work for area people in need.
Over 30 people mustered the courage to take the dip last year, Danielle Flannery, WMCA organizer, said. Well over $600 has been pledged online this year.
Those who would rather stay dry and warm may also make pledges.
For more information on donating, getting a Plunger Tool-Kit and how to be a successful plunger, go to www.razoo.com/story/2014-Freezin-For-A-Reason.
Plungers can preregister and sign up to accept online pledges. Each registrant needs to raise a minimum of $25 to participate. Offline pledges need to be collected and brought to the plunge Saturday.
Participants can come in Halloween costumes but are asked to keep them safe and within reason.
When funding from the county was cut last year, Western Maine Community Action sponsored fundraisers to make up the difference. For over 45 years, the social service agency has provided help to people in the Western Mountains region.
