1930 – 2014
AUBURN — Dawn Hazel Hakala, 84, formerly of 80 Manley Road in Auburn, died Sunday, Oct. 26, with her children by her side, after a valiant struggle with a long illness.
Dawn was born in Gardiner on May 17, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward Payson Weston and Lottie Mae (Foster) Weston.
Dawn was the quintessential post-World War II woman. She was an outstanding homemaker, devoted wife and mother and a passionate patriot. She was always learning and always interested in the world around her, an avid reader and was never afraid to voice her opinions. The depth of her love for family, friends and country will be missed.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, James and Paula Hakala of South Paris, Pamela and Wallace Seymour of Purcellville, Va., and Amy and Tim Dolan of Medway, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Hayes of Manchester and Mrs. Shirley Hanley of Randolph; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Hakala, Nichole Poisson, Rachel Seymour, Jessica Seymour, Jake Seymour, Ian Wallingford, Beth Randall, Amy Case and Johannah and Charles Dolan; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Carl Hakala; a sister, Irene Wing, of Bangor; a brother, Arthur “Buddy” Weston, also of Bangor; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Hakala, of Auburn; and a granddaughter, Linnea Dolan.
We would like to thank the numerous medical professionals and health care workers who cared for Dawn, especially in recent months.
