FARMINGTON — A local man accused of taking over $14,000 from the University of Maine’s contracted dining service pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday in Franklin County Superior Court.

Matthew W. Black, 31, was indicted on a charge of felony theft by unauthorized taking or transfer earlier this month by a Franklin County grand jury.

Aramark Higher Education is the contracted dining service for the University of Maine at Farmington.

Black, a former office manager with Aramark, was charged by Chief Brock Caton of the UMF Campus Police Department in July.

The funds from petty cash were taken between Oct. 1, 2013, and June 26, according to a court document. Black worked for Aramark during that time.

Judge Nancy Carlson set a court appearance for Jan. 2 and moved the case to a February trial date.
