- A section of Route 136 in Auburn was closed just before noon Monday while crews clean up a 30-gallon spill of hydraulic fluid between Stackpole and Jordan School roads. The fluid spilled after a chain holding down a bulldozer on a flatbed trailer broke, and the bulldozer flipped off the trailer onto the road. Bob Foss, who owns the bulldozer, said police and the city’s public works crew were making more of the spill than necessary. He said the fluid is vegetable oil and recommends hosing it off the road. After police closed the road, Foss brought an excavator from his nearby farm, righted the bulldozer and drove it up the hill, away from the road. The state’s Department of Environmental Protection was alerted and a representative was sent to the scene.

The state Department of Environmental Protection sent workers to the scene. “Whatever it is, it’s slippery and will need to be sanded down and cleaned off before we can reopen the road,” a first responder said.
