BUCKFIELD — The Board of Selectmen approved the purchase of a 1998 Ford custom ambulance from Stoneham Rescue for $6,000.
Rescue Chief Floyd Richardson said $4,995 would come from the Fire Equipment Reserve and a $1,005 donation from the Rescue Association, which the board voted to accept.
Richardson said the ambulance was in very good condition and could easily pass inspection. The Rescue Association will donate the cost to paint and letter the new ambulance, Richardson said.
In another action, the board voted to allow the fire department to purchase a Ford 8000 pumper fire truck from the Union fire District for one dollar. Deputy Chief David Knox said the association had not formerly approved the purchase, so the motion was pending the association’s approval. Additional costs would be for transporting the truck and painting, lettering and equipping the truck. This vehicle would be the squad truck and would go where the expensive engines should not travel. The board voted, if necessary, the additional funds would come from the fire reserve, and money was not to exceed $1,500.
Knox said the present 1995 squad truck had been declared out of service, and repairs would probably run close to $5,000.
The board appointed James Lowell to a one-year seat on the Community Day Committee.
