1932 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Beverly Cecile Macomber, 82, of East Wilton passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, at Edgewood Living Center in Farmington, where she had been a resident since December 2010.

She was born on March 18, 1932, to David and Stella (Lane) Baker of Dryden. She graduated from Wilton Academy in 1950.

On Sept. 1, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond A. Macomber. They made their home and raised their children in East Wilton. Bev and Raymie celebrated 64 years of marriage in September.

Except for a short time working at Bass Shoe in Wilton and many years later working at Forster Manufacturing plant in Dryden, her greatest work was done in her home, raising her children. While caring for own family, including her grandchildren, she also looked after many who grew up in East Wilton. She had a passion for encouraging young mothers and giving love, acceptance and guidance to the many friends and neighbors who knew her as a faithful friend. She is loved by many!

Bev was well-known for her fresh doughnuts ,made almost daily for many years. It was also not uncommon to find several neighborhood kids at the Macomber table after school, enjoying her warm cookies or chocolate cake with cold milk. Her door was always open.

When Bev was growing up in Dryden, she attended the Dryden Baptist Church, where she placed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For many years, the East Wilton Union Church was the place where Bev grew in her faith and love for God and His Word. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Pioneer Girls leader and was part of a women’s group in the church who called themselves the Berean Class. It is from this group of women that a Christian teen camp was envisioned, along with the then pastor, the Rev. Glenn Chaffee.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Raymond Macomber; six children, Donna Macomber of western Russia, Daryl Macomber and his companion, Lin, of New Jersey and his children, Jason, Ryan and Bryan, David Macomber and his wife, Debbie, of East Wilton and their children, Jonathan and Brandi, Daniel Macomber and his wife, Terry, of Jay and their daughter, Karisa, Deborah Trask of Wilton and her children Amy, Arthur and Andrew, and Donald Macomber and his wife, Judy, of Jay and their children, Kelsey and Kristy; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert W. Baker of Perkins Plantation; a sister, Jacqueline Austin of Wilton; and many nieces and nephews — all dearly loved by Beverly!

She is predeceased by a younger sister, Marion; her parents, David and Stella Baker; older brother, Richard C. Baker; and an older sister, Mary Louise Gabbert Hobart.
