LEWISTON – A Bates Street man was sentenced to serve four years in prison Friday, nearly a year after he was arrested for trafficking heroin between Lewiston and Bath.
In a plea agreement in Androscoggin County Superior Court, 41-year-old Macarthur Taylor was sentenced to 22 years behind bars, although 18 of those years were suspended.
Police and drug agents arrested Macarthur in December 2013 after a yearlong investigation during which Macarthur sold heroin to undercover agents in school zones.
He was ultimately indicted on eight counts, including charges of aggravated drug trafficking and trafficking in prison contraband.
Originally from New York, Taylor is no stranger to the penal system. According to court documents, his criminal history includes convictions for second-degree murder, kidnapping, possession of a dangerous weapon, trafficking in prison contraband and trafficking and possession of scheduled drugs. Most of the convictions were for crimes committed in New York, according to court records.
In 2007, Macarthur was arrested on drug charges after a routine traffic stop uncovered crack coaine and ecstasy in his car.
