FARMINGTON — When Andy Buckland, R-Farmington, begins his first term as in the House Representatives for District 113, he wants to work on energy needs for local Mainers.

“I hope to be able to significantly lower the cost of energy in our area in a way that provides affordable energy to all: both large users, such as mills and hospitals, as well as small users, such as our residences and small businesses,” he said.

As a freshman in the House representing the towns of Farmington and New Sharon, Buckland realizes he may not get his first committee choices.

“I hope to be placed on the Utilities and Energy Joint Subcommittee,” he said.

“While we should continue to do the necessary R&D to make renewables viable for the future, it should be a priority to make the hydropower and natural gas options available as soon as possible,” Buckland said.

Buckland of Farmington is a small business owner and musician. He also serves on the town’s Board of Selectmen. He is a Farmington Safety Committee member and worked on the Sandy River Flood Management and Erosion Reduction Plan.

He was a Mt. Blue Regional School District music teacher and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maine at Farmington.
