The two Sunday night motion picture shows put on in the Mystic theatre under the management of Lewiston Mayor Wiseman and Chief of Police McCarron, have netted the sum of $240 which will be used in providing Thanksgiving dinners for the needy people of the city of Lewiston. The shows were given for the purpose of providing such a fund and now the mayor and chief desire help from the citizens generally in disbursing it. They request that all who know of any worthy and needy families send the address to either Mayor Wiseman, Chief McCarron or Deputy Chief Davis before noon on Wednesday.

Temperatures hovering slightly above freezing did little to deter shoppers interested in getting the best deals on Friday, the traditional start to the Christmas shopping season. Vickie Swasey of Buckfield got up just after 5 a.m., dropped her daughters at their grandmother’s house and was waiting by 6:45 a.m. at Ames Department Store at the Lewiston Mall, hoping to pick up a doll stroller for her 4-year-old and a power tool for her husband. It would appear that kitchen sets and anything with the word Nintendo on it are popular items among children for the second year in a row. Irene Provencher of Auburn had already selected three plaid winter shirts and was looking at ski gloves. “I’m looking for (the Fisher-Price) stove and refrigerator. It seems to be what they’re asking for.”
