MEXICO — Mexico and Rumford firefighters were called to the Mexico transfer station Tuesday morning to extinguish a fire.

Mexico fire Chief Gary Wentzell said a truck from the Rumford paper mill brought in a dumpster full of garbage that was on fire. The load was dumped on the ground by the tire pile and extinguished by five or six firefighters.

“It was bags and bags and bags of garbage in there so we have no idea what started the fire,” Wentzell said.

Mexico firefighters responded with an engine and the Rumford department brought a tanker.
