- Debbie Weeman, left, and her daughter, Niki Haynes, both of Auburn, work on a balsam Christmas wreath at Beaver Park in Lisbon on Saturday. Park Ranger Verla Brooks has taught a wreath-making workshop each holiday season since 1988. Brooks cuts trees in the park for the boughs and uses the cut logs for firewood to heat the Lone Pine Lodge. “It starts your little season of holidays,” said Merry Labbe of Poland. Brooks is teaching one more class from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 6, for $15. Call 353-9075 to register or to purchase a wreath made by Brooks. Proceeds are put back into the park.
