The show, performed over two nights, brings an improv twist to holiday classics and builds a new experience each night from audience suggestions. The improv of Teachers Lounge Mafia is taken from classic methods of short form and long form, and draws from improv pioneers such as Del Close and the show “Whose Line is it Anyway” as well as some forms the group created.

Each year the group uses their holiday special, “Stale Milk and Sour Cookies,” to benefit an area organization. Past beneficiaries include the United Way, Hope with Every Step and local fuel assistance agencies. This year all the proceeds from the show go toward the Western Maine Play Museum.

Western Maine Play Museum is a community-driven project that began in the summer of 2013 with the goal of creating an interactive and exciting learning place for local and visiting children. WMPM Board President Angela McLeod stated, “From the beginning this project has benefited from the passion of local educators, so it seems especially fitting that the Teachers Lounge Mafia reached out to us about using their talents to raise funds for the museum. It isn’t said enough: teachers rock!”

The mature-content show can be seen at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6, in UMF’s Lincoln Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. Donations will be collected at the door.
