WATERVILLE — Isaiah Calder loaded the stat sheet with 22 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals Wednesday night, leading Leavitt to its first KVAC boys’ basketball win of the season, 64-53 over Waterville.

Korey Caito added 16 points for the Hornets (1-1). Eli Calder chipped in 10 points, while Mitchel Davis contributed 10 rebounds and five assists. Leavitt surged ahead with an 18-11 second quarter gain to lead 29-24 and gradually increased that margin down the stretch.

Corey Huersano topped the Purple Panthers (0-2) with 20 points. Devon Begin tallied 10.

Madison 58, St. Dom’s 29

AUBURN — Mitch Jarvais poured in a game-high 18 points to power Madison to a 58-29 triumph over St. Dom’s in MVC boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Bulldogs (2-0) remained strong throughout, scoring double digits in all four quarters. Nick Morales contributed 13 points for Madison.

Becket Wagner tallied eight points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots for the Saints. Mike Bryant added eight points for St. Dom’s.

Lewiston 77, Cony 69

LEWISTON — Lewiston rallied from an early 12-point deficit to notch a 77-69 win over Cony in an early-season KVAC boys’ tilt Wednesday.

Trever Irish led the Blue Devils (1-1) with 22 points, while Ace Curry tallied 16 and Tykeem Gaines added 15.

Tim Cusick paced the Rams (0-2) with 22 points, while Liam Stokes chipped in with 18.

Winthrop 55, Mountain Valley 27

RUMFORD — Winthrop went on a 22-4 tear in the second frame Wednesday and raced away with a 55-27 MVC boys’ basketball win over Mountain Valley on Wednesday.

Jacob Hickey led the Ramblers (3-0) with 16 points, while Ben Allen chipped in with 11. Brad Marshall led the Falcons (1-2) with 10 points, while Tom Marshall added six.

Edward Little 49, Brunswick 38

AUBURN — Three Edward Little players scored in double digits as Edward Little shook off Brunswick 49-38 in a girls’ basketball game Wednesday night.

The Red Eddies (2-0) held a 24-14 lead going into the second half, but the Dragons gave EL a hard time in the second half. But Emily Jacques scored 10 of 13 points in the second half to help give the Red Eddies the edge.

Tianna Harriman threw in 12 points and Eraleena Hairston helped out with 11. For the Dragons, Julia Champagne scored the game-high 20 points and Madeline Suhr dropped in 10.

Gray-New Gloucester 52, Fryeburg 49

GRAY — Senior forward Maria Valente scored 11 points to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 52-49 victory over Fryeburg in WMC girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Patriots (2-0) led 27-20 at the half. Junior forward Alana Camerl notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raiders (0-2) missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Buzzell and sophomore forward Nicole Bennett scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, including a three-point field goal each in the losing effort.

Lewiston 46, Cony 37

AUGUSTA — Junior guard Kristina Blais drained a game-high 12 points to lead Lewiston to a 46-37 victory over Cony in KVAC girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (1-1) exploded for 21 points in the third quarter. Morgan Eliasen chipped in with seven points, including a field goal from beyond the arc.

Victoria Harris recorded seven points and nine rebounds for Lewiston. Sydney Cheever paced the Rams (0-2) with nine points, all on 3-pointers.

Poland 38, Kennebunk 24

KENNEBUNK — Michaella Arsenault poured 17 points into the net Wednesday evening to lead Poland to a 38-24 win over Kennebunk in WMC girls’ basketball.

Nathalie Theriault chipped in eight points for the Knights (2-0), while Morgan Brousseau added six.

Leavitt 38, Waterville 23

TURNER — Leavitt used a 15-7 run in the third quarter to take control and pulled away to a 38-23 victory over Waterville in KVAC girls’ basketball Wednesday.

Elizabeth Goulette led the Hornets (1-1) with 13 points, while Chantel Eells chipped in 10. Fotini Shanos paced Waterville with seven.

Wiscasset 56, Telstar 29

WISCASSET — After sprinting out to a 16-point advantage in the first quarter, Wiscasset raced away to a 56-29 romp over Telstar in an MVC girls’ basketball tilt Wednesday.

Alecia Faulkingham led the Wolverines (1-0) with 13 points, while Miranda McIntire chipped in seven. Becca Howard topped Telstar (0-2) with 14 points, while Haley Peterson added eight.

Girls’ hockey

EL/Leavitt/Poland 5, Cape/Waynflete 3

PORTLAND — Danica Nadeau and Haley Frohlich each scored two goals, and the Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland penalty kill kept Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete out of the net eight times in a 5-3 girls’ hockey win Wednesday at Portland Ice Arena.

Madison DeRosa also had a power-play goal, helping the Red Hornets (6-0) to a 2-0 lead after one period.

Emma Martineau added two assists. Tori Sanford picked up the win in goal.
